Fulton creates the busts as constructions of two or three blown glass elements. He achieves distinctive facial images by blowing the glass into a bronze mold, then manipulating it further so that no two faces are alike. Because he continues to reheat and blow the head portion after removing it from the mold, each work assumes its own unique facial characteristics.
